Louisa was enternained with her food when she heard Gretl's comment. Looking up to her Mother, she stared at her trying to figure out what her sister meant. Maria did look a bit pale, but so what? She didn't seem to be sick. "Well, at least I don't think so," Louisa concluded in her thoughts.
The blonde girl kept looking at her Mother to see what she would reply. Everyone had stopped eating (even Kurt) to divert their attention to Maria.
"I'm weird?" she asked a little cofused, looking at each pair of eyes that observed her.
Indeed, Maria had been feeling strange lately, but nothing to worry about, she had told to herself. She hadn't talked to Georg about that. "Maybe I should," she thought seeing how he looked at her with an inquiring expression.
Turning to Gretl, she said, "It's nothing, darling. Maybe I just need some food."
The little girl seemed satisfied with the answer, but the older children no, not to talk about Georg. Anyway, everyone let it pass for now and resumed eating.

The silence went on for a time, there were occasional fork sounds and the clatter of plates with utencils. "Father-" Liesl broke the silence. "When will we send out for- um," Liesl looked at her plate "A cook or butler?"

"Well, I suppose I'll post a notice in town today. It will be hard to find one, with seven terrors." he informed his children, eyes twinkiling. Gretl giggled.

The children all spoke at once saying practically the same thing "Oh father- we arent" "Father, how could you say that." "Proove it" "we're nice, honest" well the matter ended in laughs. It got silent again as they ate.
Liesl put down her fork. "are we really going to town?"

Georg nodded "Why? Do you have plans?"

Liesl thought the question to be rather silly "oops" she thought. "No father- I was just-" Liesl sighed and got up to empty her dish.

Gretl asked, "What are we going to get?"

Maria put down her fork. She looked to Georg and then to the children then back to her husband again. "Well Gretl, I was thinking its time for some new outfits.." Georg opened his mouth to speak, but Maria kept talking "Oh dear, we only need a few fabrics and patterns, we came all this way, they need a reward." The children looked wide-eyed at their father, waiting for an answer. "Well-" "Oh please father" they said. "Well, we can arrange something." The children burst out in joy. "But, Maria, you've done enough, we'll just buy them already made ones, to save you the trouble." Maria looked lovingly at him and they held hands. Liesl stared at them, she loved the way they were in love- she hoped to be like that someday with someone.

Louisa was looking at her parents in a dreaming way too. She even dropped her fork to do so. As she always did, she turned to Liesl to observe her reaction. But they didn't share one of their usual looks. Guess why not? Liesl seemed to be in another world. In which world, though?
Louisa didn't know, but could imagine. She went back to her food and observed as Liesl left the table.
After the oldest girl entered the kitchen Louisa turned to their siblings and parents. She wanted to give ideas about their upcoming outing too. How many years ago was the last time they had been together in the town? She couldn't even remember.
"Can I buy a new dress, Father? What about new shoes?" Louisa asked eagerly.
Maria gave her a stern look, as if telling her their situation wasn't as it used to be. Louisa understood and looked at her own lap in a regretful way.
"We'll see to it, Louisa," her Father said trying not to disappoint her.
Georg and Maria looked at each other and shared a smile.

Liesl emptied her plate. Again she was off into her fantasy world. She was there in a light blue dress on the top of some stairs sharing a kiss with a man she often saw in her dreams, he was really handsome, tall, brown haired and-*CRASH* Liesl dropped her plate. It seemed she drifted too far. She instantly snapped back. She stuck her head in the dining room. "Umm its alright, everythings under control" she dashed back in cleaning her mess "Ohh!"

Louisa looked at her embarrassed sister and couldn't help giggling. As the girl had finished eating too, she decided to go to the kitchen to see if Liesl needed help. Well, not only for this reason, it's true.
"Excuse me, Father," Louisa said standing up.
As they were all still involved in planning their outing, it seemed Georg hadn't really noticed Louisa talk to him. After he had nodded absently, not even looking at her, she left the table.
"What's the matter, Liesl?" Louisa asked as she started to empty her plate.
Liesl, who was collecting the the pieces of broken glass from the floor, looked up to her sister all of sudden.
"Sorry, Liesl, I didn't mean to startle you," Louisa apologized hidding a grin. Then she added in a mischievous way, "you know, Liesl, you'd better place your feet on the ground."
Liesl had returned to her task but raised her head to stare at her sister again. This time with an intrigued expression. But Louisa acted as if she hadn't noticed it.

"I dont have any idea what you are talking about" Liesl said as she turned and put the last remaining peices in the trash.
Liesl muffled a laugh. She was all clumbsy all of a sudden and she knew it. "I guess I just cant get through a meal with out breaking something.."

"Why is Liesl acting so dreamingly?" Louisa wondered. She did think to be in another world. And that was not the first time Louisa had noticed this behavior. Definitely something was happening. Something good, Louisa guessed.
Louisa's eyes followed Liesl as she left the kitchen from the back door. This way she wouldn't have to face the others who were still talking fervorously in the dinning room.
"Should I ask or not?"
"Hey, Liesl, wait for me!" Louisa called, walking fast to catch up with her sister. She had decided to go after her.

Liesl turned her head around toward her "hmm?" she said as she halted. "Oh yes, come on" Liesl waved onward as they walked up the steps. This new house had a circular hallway where the stairs and the front door was, much like their old home. Liesl walked to her room and acknowledged her sister behind her. She knew Louisa had something on her mind. "Maybe she's upset because we dont talk so much anymore?" Liesl shook her head, it couldnt be true.
"Which one?" She said as she laid two dresses on her bed. One familar-it was light lavendar with silk ties with small bows on them on the upper part of the dress and a flowy bottom. The other was a light yellow the same type of design except with no bows but a shorter bottom-length. Though it wasnt much, Liesl knew Louisa was flattered to be asked. How many chances to you get to pick out your older sisters clothing, when they should be well aware of what they want to wear.

Louisa was gald to have a sister's moment with Liesl. It had been a long time since the last time they had a chance to talk, and the girl missed it. After all, Liesl was the figure as closest as a Mother Louisa could get.
"Hum, Liesl, I don't know,' the youngest said, relishing the moment. "Both are beautiful, but why do you need them?"
Liesl looked embarrassed at her sister. The oldest girl seemed not to know what to say.
"Are you going somewhere?" Louisa inquired really curious.
