Liesl managed to find some words. "To town of corse, silly" she said as she nudged Louisa a bit. "I think the yellow one...its time I put somethings in the past."
Louisa seemed not to comprehend..how could she, she wasnt there. Liesl put the old lavender one in the back of her closet, almost as saying goodbye to old memories "after all this is a new beginig" she thought.
She put the yellow one on. Then her shoes. "How should I wear my hair" she asked.

Louisa had forgotten about their outing. When Liesl remembered her about that she became excited.
"Oh, Liesl! The town, of course!"
Liesl laughed at Louisa's distraction.
"I wonder what we will do there. I don't think Father can afford to spent much money," Louisa thought as she recalled Maria's words about their new situation.
"Hum, I prefer the white shoes, Liesl," Louisa said, not wanting to linger at the previous thought.
"What do you think we'll buy today? I think Father want to buy some new clothes to Mother."

"hmm...Probably" Liesl said as she resistingly put the white shoes on. She then stood in front of her mirror making all sorts of poses. She stuck her tounge out at Louisa because she was making fun of her.
"Lets go- they're probably ready and waiting to leave" Liesl stopped her silly poses and opened the door. Louisa followed her out. They made their way down the stairs and saw their family collected in the hallway getting their coats on.

The girls went dowstairs to join the others. Louisa couldn't find her coat.
"Father, have you seen my coat?"
Everyone had their coats on, including Liesl.
Georg looked at her thirteen year old daughter, showing impatience. "Again?"
Louisa winced. Maria noticed and tried to help her.
"Well, Louisa, try to remember the last time you used it," she said kindly, holding Marta's hand.
"Why does she do that?" Friedrich asked annoyed. "We are not supposed to take our coats inside!"
Louisa shot an angry look at him.
"I think I saw a coat at the terrace," Gretl said proud.
"Hum? Ah, yes!" Louisa exclaimed ruuning to the back door, with no further words.
"I can't understand her," Georg sighed as he observed Louisa run.
Liesl laughed and caught the hand Gretl had oustretched to her.

Liesl let go of Gretl's hand so she could fix her hat. Liesl sighed..she didnt like that hat very well. "I'll just take it off later" she thought.
She returned to Gretl and grabbed her hand. Some started to walk out the front door. Smelling the new air. They couldn't wait to see the town.
"Oh hurry Louisa!" Brigitta said impatiently.

Louisa had left her coat outside the last time they had returned from school. It had been so cold, and she had wanted so much to go to the terrace, that she didn't even bothered to take her coat off. But as time passed by it got warmer and she didn't need it anymore. The problem was that, when she went back inside, her coat was left there, forgotten.
"I'm coming!" Louisa exclaimed running and holding her hat so it wouldn't fall off.
"Oh, that coat is wet!"
Friedrich laughed.
"What are you laughing at?" the girl asked annoyed while they all entered the car.
"What did you expect leaving the coat outside? Do you think your coat is water proof?" he replied in a mock way.
Yes, it had been raining a lot lately. Fortunately that day the sky was as clear as fresh water.
"Humpf," was Louisa's reply.
"Everyone settled?" Georg asked, looking at Maria, who had Gretl in her lap.
Maria nodded and the children, from the backseat, agreed.

Maria turned her head to them "Now Children- first we'll see what we can do about clothes. uh, does anyone need any new shoes? thats second."
"I do!" Kurt said "my good pair are coming apart!"
"Alright, Children who need shoes, will be tend to first then, and all children who really dont need anything, but want to look nice-" they all laughed "Will be tend to last."
Maria turned back around. Statisfyed she had handled that situation well. Georg looked at her, impressed as well. "Uh Louisa?" he said "I think its time you get a new coat." The children agreed. Sitting next to Louisa was a bit- wet.

"Well, I think so, Father," Louisa said a bit sad. She didn't want to have to buy a new coat.
She wanted a new pairs of shoes too, but didn't know if it would be reasonable to ask for it. Her shoes weren't exactly tearing apart, but it would be nice if she could have a new pair. However, a coat would be expensive, and she knew her Father couldn't afford to spend much money, only for the necessary.
However, from what Maria had said, Louisa still had a chance. She would be tend to last, but it didn't matter.
Summoning up all her braveness, she asked: "Father, can I have new shoes too? Before he could answer, she added: "After all, I don't need new clothes except for the coat."

"I dont see why not" Maria said, then she looked to Georg. "well- I wont have my children walking around looking poor and un cared for, yes Louisa, you may have new shoes as well." Maria was just as happy as Louisa. "Um Liesl-" "Yes mother?" "will you take Louisa to get a coat, she wouldnt get them in the same stores as the others- she's about your size now, take her with you." Liesl nodded. She looked at Louisa and smiled. For once, they would feel grown up, shopping by themselves.

Louisa had two reasons to be happy: she would get a new pair of shoes and, for the first time, be by herself in town. Well, not by herself, but with no adults! Not that she didn't like to be with her Father and her Mother, but it would be nice to feel grown up. Furthermore, she liked to have Liesl as her companion.
Friedrich and Kurt wanted to shop by themselves too, but Goerg said he wanted to buy their clothes with them. Contraried, the boys agreed.
Liesl and Louisa said goodbye to their family and started their shopping. They had agreed to meet by the car in two hours. There was enough time for them to buy what they needed. First they decided to go look for Louisa's coat.
"Hum, Liesl, how are we supposed to pay for our clothes and shoes?" Louisa asked thoughtful.

"With this" Liesl held up some money. Louisa still looked confuse. "Father gave it to us Silly."
Liesl looked around the town, it was beutifle, "not as beutifle as Salzburg" Liesl thought. "Lets see-" Liesl looked at one store "Over there- We can get your coat there." They walked onward to that store. They looked in the window. All they sold was coats. "What better place to get a coat, then a coat store!" Liesl smiled as they walked in.

Louisa hadn't seen her Father give Liesl the money. Anyway it didn't matter. Now they were off to buy her a new coat.
"Do you think they have my size, Liesl?" Louisa asked absently, looking around the shop to try and find the right coat.
But Liesl din't have the chance to reply.
"May I help you?" a voice came from behind them.
The two turned suddenly to face the salesman.
"Hum, actually-" Louisa began.
"Is it the coat for you, young lady?" the man asked looking at Louisa.
"How does he know we want a coat?" she wondered. "Oh, stupid! What would we be doing here if we didn't?" she told herself.
"Well, yes," the blonde girl answered. "Do you have my size?"
But the man, stepping out from behind the balcon, didn't answer.
"What about you?" he asked to Liesl. "A new coat for you too?"

"No thanks" she said in her nicest tone and smiled. The salesman was sort of elderly. His hair wasnt grey yet, but you could tell he was balding. "Just for my sister" Liesl said. "Do you have to measure her?" Liesl asked while the man stood there running his fingers along pocket watch. "hmm.." he said and stepped toward Louisa.
"How old are you?"

"Me, why-" Louisa began.
Liesl looked at her as if telling her not to make things difficult.
Louisa shrugged. "Well, I'm thirteen."
"Very well, then," the salesman said and went to a nearby line of hangers, where all sort of medium-sized coats could be found.
"Let me see...not an adult...but not really a child..." he said to himself.
Liesl and Louisa shared an intrigued look. The older girl smiled to the younger. Louisa felt something new. Nobody had never told her she wasn't a child anymore. And now she was hearing that from a strange.
"Come here," the man said holding three coats. He placed the clothes on a chair and retrieved a measuring tape from his side pocket.
"Stay still," he said when Louisa was right in front of him.
The salesman measured Louisa from side to side and then from the shouldres to the knees.
"That's right," he spoke.
"What?" Louisa asked.
"That leaves us these ones here," he spoke holding two of the three coats. "You may try these coats and choose the one that fits best."
"Alright," Louisa said, taking the clothes from his hands. Looking from one coat to another, and then to her sister, Louisa asked: "Well, Liesl, could you hold this one for me?"
Liesl took the coat while Louisa tried the other. Then she did the same with the other one, always analising her outfit on the mirror. "What do you think, Liesl?"

Liesl shrugged her shoulders. They both fit alright. Louisa was catching up to Liesl's size. "Maybe the Grey one Louisa" Liesl held out that one, she was holding it.
"It goes with everything you know-"
