Louisa analised once more the coat she had on, then looked at the one Liesl gave her. "Hum, you are right," Louisa agreed. "I will take the grey one," she said to the salesman, handling him the dark green coat.
"I hope it's not vey expensive," Louisa whispered to Liesl, while the man wrapped up the coat she had chosen. "Do you think the money we have will be enough to buy our shoes and also your clothes?"

Liesl rolled her eyes and nudged her. "Is that all Frauline?" Liesl turned toward him "Yes thanks-" The man put the coat into the box after it was wrapped. He told Liesl the price and she paid him. It wasnt expensive at all. Liesl winked at Louisa as she turned around telling her it was alright. She handed her the box.
"My turn now-" Liesl looked up cross eyed at some hair that had fallen in her face, she blew them away. "I need some clothes too you know-" She smiled, her smile was contageous, for Louisa was smiling also.
They exited the store and looked on. "Now- let's see..Dress store, dress store.."

Louisa was satisfied with her new coat. The old one had stayed behind in the car. She wondered whay her Father hadn't gotten mad at her due to the fact that a little distraction had made him spent more money. She told herself to be more careful with the new one.
"Hum, Liesl, I have no idea of where we can found a dress store," Louisa said, looking around for any window that could be displaying dresses.
"Anyway, what kind of dress do you want?"

"Something simple, but not too simple, something nice and" Liesl saw something from the corner of her eye "something..Like that!" she said as she pointed to a store across the way. In the window was a light blue dress, it was a two peice, Liesl's favorite type. "Oh come on Louisa" Liesl jerked Louisa forward.
They got to the store and Liesl stood outside staring and staring. "You know- maybe we should buy you some shoes first.." Liesl thougt about it, the dress would cost alot, she would just see how much they had left over and use that for the dress. If it wasnt enough she could just find another one.
Liesl took her arm again and stopped when an elderly woman passed by "excuse me, My sister and I, want to know where we can find a shoe store." The woman looked at them. "I had hair like yours..blonde and long, and wavy too-" she said while looking at Louisa. Louisa was speechless so Liesl talked for her "oh, thats sweet. Now um are there any shoe stores around?" The woman snapped out of her daze and pointed her finger toward a store in the direction they came from. "Thank you." Liesl did a small curtsie. They were off again.

At first Louisa didn't move. Nodoby had said such thing to her before. Then the woman's image came into her mind. "Will I be like her?" she wondered, hoping not.
The blond girl brought a hand to her hair and straightened it, still thoughtful. She walked forth only when Liesl pulled her again.
"New shoes first?" Louisa asked absently. "Why, Liesl? I thought you had liked that dress. It was very beautiful."

"Yes- well, practical comes before beauty I'm afraid." Liesl squinted even though the sun wasn't in her eyes, she was wearing a hat. "Oh I see it now" Liesl let go of Louisa. She was sure she could see it too. "Now lets see about some shoes-"
They opened the door. This time, it had little bells that jingled when the walked in. There was a young lady in an apron walking around telling the children to stop switching the shoes in and out of the boxes. "Oh hello girls-" She said as she picked up a boy, no younger than four. "Dan, behaive." she put him back down and he ran into another room and the other children followed.
"How may I help you?"she asked, wiping her hands on her apron "Thats probably why she has it" Liesl thought. "Oh my sister, Louisa, needs some shoes" Liesl pushed her forward a bit. "ah I see- well, how old are you?"

Louisa was not very comfortable. She resisted a bit when Liesl pushed her forward, but the woman wouldn't divert her gaze from her.
"Well, I'm thirteen," she answered. That woman made her uneasy...She was so, so,...well, Louisa didn't know what she was. "Why does she want to know my age? What does it have to do with shoes?"
"Hum, what kind of shoes are you looking for...what's your name?"
"Louisa."
"So, Louisa, what kind of shoes do you want?"
Louisa hadn't really thought about that. She only wanted nice and brand new shoes. "Hum, I would like to see what you have here," she said.
"I'll bring you some pairs. Wait here, I'll be back soon," the woman spoke, disappearing to another room. "She is strange," Louisa said looking at her sister.
Liesl didn't understand.

"Louisa-" Liesl said quite annoyed. "How so? She seems nice, she just wants to know your name, and possibly your age so she knows you're not a child size."
Liesl heard a young girl from the other room with all the children. "calm down!" "Oh leave us alone, let us play." said a boy. She must've been their sister, trying to keep them behaived...Liesl knew all about that.
"Louisa, stop pacing back and forth"

Louisa definitely wasn't feeling comfortable there. But now they were at the store she would stay and choose her shoes as fast as she could so they could go to search for Liesl's dress.
Louisa stopped pacing and looked at her sister. "What Liesl? Don't you think this place is strange? I doesn't look like a store. And that woman-"
Louisa swallowed her words when the saleswoman returned with some boxes. Liesl gasped praying she hadn't heard Louisa.
"Plese sit down, Louisa," the woman said pointing at a nearby chair. "I'll show you some pairs, alright?"
Louisa nodded and sat on the chair, taking off her current shoes.
The woman kneeled down and started to open the first box, retrieving from there a pair of golden-yellow shoes. Louisa opened her eyes wide and looked at Liesl as if saying: "Didn't I tell you she isn't normal?"

Liesl lifted an eyebrow, something she did always. "um.." Liesl hesitated but tapped the woman. "Do you have anything for her that would, um..match some thing like that?" she said as she pointed to Louisa's current dress.
Now both eyebrows were raised in anticipation.

"Oh!" the woman said a bit disappointed. "I just thought you would like something that matched you hair," she explained.
Louisa didn't know if she laughed or cried. "But my hair isn't that colour!" she wanted to say. but just thought.
Louisa noticed her sister was starting to agree with her in what concerned the woman's behavior.
"Let me see, then..." After having opened all the boxes and cheking into them, the woman shook her head. "I'm sorry, I think I don't have what you want here. Wait a minute. I'll bring you more shoes," she said, standing up and returning to the room where she had found the first shoes.
Louisa hadn't seen the content of the boxes, nor had Liesl.
"What do you think she had there?" Louisa asked not wanting to believe the situation. "Red shoes? Orange ones? shocking pink?" The girl wanted to take the chance and leave the store, but it wouldn't be polite.

"Louisa maybe she just has alot on her mind, with all those children" Liesl then thought, "oh now I know how father feels." Liesl stood up and walked to the counter. She took out a pen and some paper and started to write. she put the pen down and grabbed Louisa. They were out the door and in town again.
Liesl looked at Louisa's puzzled expression. "I just simply wrote thank you for your services but we have to go. Sounds polite?" Liesl asked, wondering if she had made the right descision.

Louisa couldn't belive what her sister had just done. She loved it, though.
"Liesl, are you mad?" she asked laughing, still bewildered.
"I don't know if it was polite, but who cares? We wouldn't have gone anywhere if we had stayed there" Louisa said, but her sister didn't gave her much attention. She seemed to be in a hurry.
"Hey, Liesl, calm down!" Louisa demanded, freeing her arm from Liesl's grasp.
The older girl stopped and looked at Louisa, as if she had just became aware of her words.
"What are your plans now, Liesl? You see, I still don't have a new pair of shoes."

"hmm" was all she said. There was a big clock tower in the middle of town visible from all sides. "we have another hour or so-" Liesl started to walk again, Louisa had no choice, she followed.
They went down a different street. Liesl kept looking in one direction, scanning the stores "no-" she'd say. Louisa helped Liesl search for whatever it is she was searching for.

Louisa didn't know what Liesl wanted, but it could only be a dress, she imagined. So whenever she saw a beautiful one she would stop and show it to her sister.
Louisa knew Liesl would never tell her, but it was worth a try, so she asked: "Er, Liesl, will you tell me what you are looking for?"
It didn't seem to work. The blonde girl tried another way: "What about my shoes? You haven't forgotten, have you?"
